Salford shortlisted for two Educate North Awards

Categories: Schools

We’re happy to announce that Salford has been nominated for two awards at the upcoming Educate North Awards. Our innovative Energy House 2.0 research has landed a spot in the Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) Initiative category, while the School of Arts, Media and Creative Technology’s state-of-the-art motion capture (mocap) teaching is up for a Digital Education and Development award.

Energy House 2.0

Energy House 2.0 is the largest research facility of its type. Inside, there are two environmental chambers each able to accommodate two detached houses and under controlled conditions, recreate a wide variety of weather conditions with temperatures ranging between -20˚C to +40˚C and simulated wind, rain, snow and solar radiation. This unique facility will play a key role in accelerating the progress towards low carbon and net zero housing design and builds upon the success of the original Energy House 1. The EH 2.0 project was part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Office for Students.

Motion capture at Salford

Two creative technologists, Connoll Pavey and Jake Louden, have built up an industry-leading motion capture space at the University from scratch that has transformed the way our students are engaging with extended realities within their studies. The project is a renowned success and a leading asset within the University that is now expanding to an international reach with games companies and post-production studios working with us to develop training material together for students across the creative industries.

The Educate North Awards, now in its tenth year, will celebrate, recognise and share best practice and excellence in the education sector in the North. The awards highlights world class achievements across the University, Higher Education, Further Education and Sixth Form sectors in the North of England.

Winners will be revealed during the awards evening held at The Hilton Hotel, Deansgate on Thursday 18 April – best of luck to all involved.
