Sports Centre Safeguarding Statement

The University of Salford Sports Centre has a duty of care to safeguard people from harm and protect all children and vulnerable people attending our Sports Facilities or participating in our activities through adherence to the University of Salford Safeguarding Policy and accompanying measures and procedures.

The University of Salford also has a duty of care, to protect all adults at risk of abuse and safeguard their welfare, irrespective of age, disability, gender, ethnicity, gender identity, religion or belief and sexual orientation.

The aim of the University of Salford Sports Centre’s Safeguarding Statement is to promote good practice through:

  • Providing children, young people and vulnerable adults with appropriate safety and protection whilst accessing the services provided by the University of Salford Sports Centre.
  • All Staff will undertake regular safeguarding training when provided or facilitated by the University of Salford.
  • Allowing all staff to make informed and confident responses to child protection and adult safeguarding issues, with support from the Sports Centre’s designated safeguarding officer.
  • All University of Salford Staff, Students, and our external customers adhere to the University of Salford Safeguarding Policy and the Sports Centre facility policies which help to promote the protection of Children and Vulnerable People.
  • Our Swimming Pool Admissions Policy is always adhered to by our staff and customers. The Swimming Pool Admissions Policy is visible at Sports Centre Reception.
  • Exclusive access to the Swimming Pool and Wet Side Changing Area is given to all School Swimming Lessons facilitated at the Sports Centre for the duration of each lesson, with appropriate changeover time provided.
  • All external providers of activities and services to children at the Sports Centre will have undertaken a DBS Check through that organisation prior to delivering these services and reported any concerns to the Sports Centre/sent a copy to the Sports Centre. For Community Sports Hall Bookings, the Adult to Child Supervision Ratio is 2:10. Children under the age of 12 must always be supervised whilst using the Sports Centre Facilities.
  • For external providers of Swimming Lessons, the Parent or Guardian accompanying each child must always remain with their child within wet side changing areas and on poolside when the child is not in the pool undertaking a swimming lesson with a designated swimming instructor.
  • Children are always accompanied by a Parent or guardian when in the Sports Centre Building, and children attending swimming lessons must use the wet side changing and shower facilities only. Dry side changing areas and showers are not to be used.
  • Only those who are 18 or over may use the Sports Centre’s facilities unattended.

We ask that our staff and customers report any safeguarding concerns promptly. This can be done by reporting all immediate concerns to the University of Salford Sports Centre Duty Officer on shift, concerns will then be reported to the Sports Centre’s designated safeguarding officer to be dealt with through the appropriate channels at the University, in line with the University of Salford Safeguarding Policy.
