Motion capture at Salford

Two creative technologists, Connoll Pavey and Jake Louden, from the University's School of Arts, Media and Creative Technology have built up an industry-leading motion capture space from scratch that has transformed the way our students are engaging with extended realities within their studies. The project is a renowned success and a leading asset within the University that is now expanding to an international reach with games companies and post-production studios working with us to develop training material together for students across the creative industries.

Jake said on the win: "It was such a surprise to us to be nominated and then on the night to hear the lead up to the award and how highly it was regarded, I really didn’t think it would be ours to take home given the competition. It was incredibly humbling and emotional when they called us. It means so much to the both of us and even more for Allan (Dean of the School of Arts, Media and Creative Technology) to be there."

Connoll added: "It’s an honour just to be nominated and we’re overwhelmed with pride to have won. We’re beyond excited to share the news with our students and continue developing the best possible platform we can for their development. We can’t wait to see what the future for Mocap at Salford holds."

Our innovative Energy House 2.0 research also received a nomination in the best Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) Initiative category. Winners were revealed during the special ceremony held at The Hilton Hotel, Deansgate - congratulations to all involved.
