Human Performance Laboratory

Female and male student conducting strength tests within the Human Performance Lab

Part of our Sport Science Laboratories, the Human Performance Laboratory is a purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility, dedicated to both research and teaching. While its primary focus is on sport science, the HPL also accommodates various sciences like physiotherapy, podiatry, and prosthetics and orthotics.

Within the Human Performance Laboratory, we house advanced equipment for biomechanical and physiological studies. The laboratory features:

  • Two Isokinetic Dynamometers (Biodex System 4 and KinCom AP2).
  • Alter-G Via anti-gravity treadmill.
  • Various high-speed video cameras.
  • Portable Kistler force plates.
  • Brower and Witty timing gate systems.
  • Access to Quintic Biomechanics video analysis software.
  • A range of other biomechanical assessment devices, tools, and systems.

This array of equipment enables our research teams, postgraduate students, and undergraduate learners to conduct in-depth studies and experiments across various disciplines within the realm of sports science and related fields.
