How does it feel to work at Salford?

Peel building

We’ve answered the needs of industry since 1896, when we began as the Salford Royal Technical Institute - we’ve now been a leading university for over 50 years. This is a time of huge change for Higher education. We're working hard to embrace these changes and our connection to industry is stronger than ever. We're proud to have more partnerships with SMEs than any other Greater Manchester university. It's everything we do and the way we do everything.

We remain committed to the wider Salford community by utilising our research expertise and encouraging students to engage with projects that benefit local residents and businesses.

It's a challenging world out there but with this come lots of opportunities to innovate and to make your mark.

Our aim is to create an inspirational, inclusive learning and working environment, celebrating the diversity of our University community in our everyday conversations.

Our location sets us apart. We're just 2km from Manchester, an internationally recognised city with a wealth of job opportunities in growing industries, such as digital, sports business and the built environment. We are champions of diversity – Greater Manchester is one of the most diverse city regions in the UK with over 200 languages spoken.

We're a campus university which means you'll find a range of amenities right here on site. On our Peel Park campus you'll find lots of food and drink options from Costa Coffee, Subway and our student shop to our sports centre and library. We are the only university with a MediaCityUK campus, sitting right next to neighbours such as ITV and the BBC. Here you'll find lots more options with the Lowry Outlet and Theatre right on the doorstep.

Getting between our two campuses is simple and free with a regular bus service in operation.

Both our campuses are easily accessible via public transport. There's a train station on Peel Park campus and a tram station at MediaCityUK as well as main bus routes in and out of Manchester City Centre.

Did you know? Peel Park was the first public park to open in 1846. Sir Robert Peel, the former Prime Minister, oversaw significant legislation  on social and economic policies, specifically the working rights of women and children.

With so many options and locations on campus, we encourage all colleagues to discuss different ways of working with their line manager to enable them to work from wherever works best for them. That might mean either our Peel or MediaCityUK campus or exploring other remote working options. Our enterprise license for Microsoft Office 365 means you can be connected to your work from wherever you are! We also have a number of other Enterprise licenses for industry leading software you need to do your best work including Creative Cloud suite and Autodesk.

Many of our research facilities are also industry leading from Energy House, a scale house testing facility that's supporting work on sustainable housing, to our cutting edge Simulation suites, creating real life scenarios to support teaching.

We're not just about technology! We also celebrate culture with comedy, plays, music and films at the New Adelphi Theatre (pictured below).
