Salford’s Dr Alex Connock becomes Amazon UK bestseller
We are delighted to announce that You’re on Mute, a new book that looks at optimal online video conferencing in business, education and media by the university’s Dr Alex Connock, has reached Number 1 Best Seller in Telecommunications on Amazon UK.
When a Washington political director turned herself into a potato at her Monday morning team meeting, the news went viral - a moment of levity amongst many, in the harrowing coronavirus pandemic of early 2020, and its adrenalised, global shift to online video conferencing. From Intensive Care Units to the Olympics, from Broadway to Hollywood - Zoom, Facetime, Teams and other tools captured the world’s communications and a billion users. Online video conferencing jumped forward a decade in a matter of days. In office life, primary schools, events and board rooms, human drama suddenly moved to the digital mosaic of the Zoom screen.
The book, published in July 2020 by Bite-Sized Books, is a Zoom lens into the explosive, viral spread of online video conferencing - which impacted almost every segment of society and the global economy during Coronavirus. From Facetimes for critically-ill intensive care patients, to Hollywood TV shows streamed from iPhones, it is an insight into what best-practice has been discovered, and what is to come in the near future.
The contributors are all uniquely placed to cover the whole range of video conferencing and how the pandemic is affecting our business, academic and professional lives.
Alex is the Academic Lead for Creative & Digital Technologies for the School of Arts and Media at our MediaCityUK campus. Alex’s role includes the development of new courses designed to match the evolving digital economy of the North. MA and BA courses have already been created in Digital Video Production and Marketing, combining the best of the School of Arts and Media with the best of Salford Business School. He also develops relationships between the university and Manchester’s fast-growth ecommerce and digital industries.
Commercially, Alex has created and grown multiple media companies and has been six times shortlisted as Entrepreneur of the Year. He is also a trustee at UNICEF UK and The Halle Orchestra.
