The University of Salford’s Computer Science programme portfolio that is accredited by the BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, is growing with the latest addition being the MSc in Data Science.

The University has a renowned reputation in Data Science with its programme at Master’s level being one if its fastest growing in the School of Science, Engineering and Environment. The University now boasts five degree course at BSc level and two at MSc that have BCS accreditation.

The BCS is the professional body that accredits computing and IT courses in the UK.  Accreditation ensures students know that the degree programme is of a high standard and allows for the awarding of professional qualifications that includes the Charted Information Technology Professional (CITP).

Professor Nigel Linge, Director of Computer Science, Networking and Mathematics said: “The accreditation of our Computer Science programmes by the BCS reflects the exceptional courses that we offer and the quality of teaching here at Salford.

“Industry collaboration is a core value of the University with students on all of our courses. MSc students are provided with real-life experience in this increasing popular subject area that is experiencing a growth in demand across several sectors.  At undergraduate level every year we run a Hackcamp in collaboration with our industry partners where students are given live briefs and asked to find solutions. It is an event that generates huge interest from students and helps prepare them to be industry ready once they graduate. Both of these have been recognised by the BCS with the HackCamp being singled our as a practice highlight.

“We are leading the way with expertise and knowledge in computer and data science and we are proud to be involved in both the European funded Greater Manchester Cyber Foundry and Artificial Intelligence projects.”
