Largest ever intake for 'Step Up to Social Work'
Last week the University of Salford welcomed its largest ever intake on the Step Up to Social Work programme.
The course began with a full day at the Salford Innovation Forum, attended by 103 students in total from across Manchester, West North Yorkshire and Yorkshire & Humberside.
The Department for Education launched Step Up to Social Work in 2010, to enable career changers to retrain as social workers. It is an intensive, 14-month programme for trainee social workers.
Trainees work in a local authority, gaining hands-on practitioner experience and academic learning.
Successful trainees will be awarded a postgraduate diploma in social work once they complete the programme, allowing them to register and practise as a social worker.
This year also marks 10 years of the Step Up to Social Work programme being offered at the University of Salford.
Dr Allister Butler, Head of Social Work and Integrated Practice at the University of Salford, told students at the event: "Walking in and seeing you all was an amazing feeling - you are our largest cohort ever, so welcome and thank you to you all. You'll get so much support from this fantastic university and we have great success from students on this programme. You truly have the impact to change lives."
