A partnership with the Royal Horticulture Society (RHS) that encourages young people to rethink the role of green spaces held a celebratory event at The University of Salford.
Year 8 and 9 pupils from 12 local school visited the university to present their Green Plan It ideas and were mentored by RHS staff and university colleagues and students. As part of the challenge pupils have been working in teams to research, plan and build a model garden for their school or local community with the university hosting the final presentation and celebration day.
Mike Brown, Director of Industry Collaboration and Partnerships at the university said: “This is our second year of working in partnership with the RHS on this incredibly worthwhile and thought-provoking challenge for young people.
Sustainability is of great importance to the university and being involved with a project like this allows us as university to share our knowledge and expertise in this area and hopefully make a difference. I was totally blown away with the presentations by the pupils and it is encouraging to see how they are thinking green at such an early age.”
Sheila Pankhurst, Dean of the School of Science, Engineering & Environment presented the award to the winning team and gave out certificates to participants.
