Life on campus
We know university life isn’t all about studying – sometimes you have to have fun, too – and there are plenty of things to do outside of academia across our campuses.
From joining a club or society, to taking part in a gym class, to meeting up with friends for lunch in Atmosphere bar and café: when you're not working on your next assignment or research project, you can be enjoying the perks of being on campus at the University of Salford.

Salford Students' Union
Once you register at the University of Salford, you’ll automatically become a member of our Students’ Union. The SU is run by students for students, independently of the University, to help you love your time studying here.
From events and activities to clubs and societies, the Students’ Union has it all, and it’s a great way to meet new people across the University. The SU also runs Atmosphere bar and café, offering a place to relax with friends, as well as a great range of food and drink at affordable prices. The bar also hosts DJ's, pub quiz and karaoke nights, sports screenings and other events.
Clubs and societies
Joining a club or society is another great way to make new friends with people who share similar passions and interests, and there are over 50 student-led societies for you to get involved with.
From dance to kayaking, debating to comedy; there’s something for everyone, and even if you can’t find one for your particular interest, the SU can support you to start your own. Within the Students’ Union, you’ll also find Shock Radio, the University’s very own radio station. Similarly, over at our MediaCityUK campus, we have an industry standard news room where students regularly broadcast for Quays News.
Discover the library
Clifford Whitworth Library is the University’s main library, which has recently undergone a £6.2m refurbishment to bring you ‘the library in the park’, inspired by the historic Peel Park which runs alongside the building. The library is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, offering group study spaces, quiet study areas, PCs, Macs and laptop loans. Our dedicated library support staff also offer a range of study skills sessions.
The Sports Centre
Team Salford unites all sports and physical activity at Salford, with the aim of making exercise accessible and fun for everyone. So, whether you’re already playing in a team or have never even set foot in a gym, we can help to find the right sport for you.
Our Sports Centre offers fitness and strength and conditioning rooms; a 25-metre swimming pool with spa and sauna; a multi-use sports hall and a range of classes including Yoga, Zumba and Pilates.
In addition, our health club offers discounted massage treatments to help you recover after training sessions and relax after a hard days' work.
Cafés and food outlets
We have a number of cafés, restaurants and food outlets across our campuses to feed your appetite throughout the day. The University’s SALFOOD cafés and restaurants allow you to pick up a coffee or a light bite when you’re on the go, or you can pop in to the main food hall in Maxwell building for a sit down hot meal, if you’d prefer.
In addition to our SALFOOD outlets, we have a Subway right here on campus, allowing you to indulge in your favourite lunchtime meal deals and snacks, while Atmosphere bar and café can be found within the Students’ Union, and also offer a full range of hot and cold meals and beverages to suit your fancy.
If you weren’t already spoiled for choice, the University’s Student Store, located both in the heart of campus and within our Allerton building, provides the daily living essentials for students. It includes a bakery where you’ll find fresh sandwiches, pastries and pies every morning, and at lunch time, hot dogs and meal deals will give you another option for satisfying your hunger.
No matter what your religion is, the University Chaplaincy is open to all faiths and none, staff and students alike. The Chaplaincy can offer a safe and confidential space to talk about any matter, providing spiritual help at times of need.
The Faith Centre is based on University Road behind Chapman Building, and is open Monday - Friday, 10am - 4pm, and Sunday 11am-4pm (swipe access only).
