Help is also available via Skills for Learning, our online platform providing eLearning, guides and videos to help you make the most of your studies. It includes advice on referencing and plagiarism and guides help you write your assignments. It is difficult to know where to start particularly if you haven’t written an assignment for some time, so the guide takes you through all the steps from planning to understanding your feedback.
Study guides on a range of topics such as writing at Masters level, time management and critical analysis are available as is a range of eLearning modules to help you with your assessments, learning and academic skills.
Business Source Premier - Full-text business database providing access to journal articles, country and industry reports, SWOT analyses and a library of global company profiles. You will be prompted to enter your University of Salford email address and password to get access.
DawsonEra - Ebook platform containing books of relevance to business. Search the DawsonEra platform to find books.
IMPORTANT UPDATE: The company that provides the DawsonEra platform has gone into administration and as a result, access to this service will cease at some point today, 31st July (exact time unknown). We are currently working on alternative access to these titles, which will included increased e-book coverage for partner college students. This work is technically complex, but we hope to update you in the near future.
Westlaw - Full text cases and statutory materials along with the Legal Journals Index and some full text journals, books, UK case law, UK legislation, EU legislation and cases, US cases and statutes, articles from legal journals and a range of international legal material.
To access, use the option "Access through academic institution". You then have to pick University of Salford from a fairly short list of institutions. You then see a "First Time Registration" form where you have to enter your name and email address - then you're in.
Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) - Peer-reviewed open access journals covering a range of subject areas.
Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB) - Open access books covering a range of subject areas.
OAPEN - A selection of open access textbooks which can be downloaded as a PDF or read on screen.
Ebsco Open Dissertations - A searchable, open access database of worldwide theses.
EThOS - The open access dissertations service provided by the British Library. It is similar to Ebsco Open Dissertations, but a number of theses listed by EThOS are available for immediate download.
Journal of Business Case Studies - Open access journal published by the Clute Institute in the USA. All the articles are freely available.
The Economics Network - A useful collection of links for UK & international statistics and other data – maintained by the economist Jon Sloman.
Company Annual Reports
AnnualReports.com - Annual reports – including archive information for over 5000 companies from across the globe. You can search by company name or browse by industry or stock exchange.
University of Salford Institutional Repository (USIR) - A searchable, online database of research that has been produced by University of Salford academics. It includes a database of past exam papers, which an be accessed off-campus using your Salford network ID and password.
When you are on campus
If your studies bring you to the campus here in Salford, you can use the library facilities, including printing and photocopying, study spaces and selected electronic resources. You can also borrow library items. Remember to bring your ID card so that you can access these services.
